Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do

A performer in a yellow headscarf and green dungarees stands behind a wooden potting bench decorated with colourful fabric flowers and terracotta pots, smiling as she tends to a bright yellow bloom.

Relaxed Performances

Every Colour The Clouds performance is relaxed, which means that everyone feels welcome and supported from the outset. When appropriate we start each show with a relaxed performance introduction where the actors explain their roles, show their costume and props and demonstrate examples of noise level and lighting changes. As inclusivity is at the forefront of what we do, we keep noise to a comfortable level in every show we do and we never go fully dark in the space.

Lots of our work is interactive which means that audience members are free to move around the space without needing to be quiet. All of our actors are experienced in working with children and young people with additional needs.

Resources

We make a visual guide for each show which gives more detail about the performance content and technical elements. Where possible these will also include photographs of the venue, directions to the performance space and key information such as nearest accessible toilets. These are available on request.

Wide view of a Wren’s World stage set: a stepped pyramid of cardboard boxes either side of a tall white sheet hanging like a tent at centre, with smaller labelled boxes reading “BIRD THINGS” and “BOOKS” at front and a performer’s face just visible peeping through the sheet.
Lit in deep purple stage light, a male performer holds a partly-open white umbrella out in front of him while a female performer beside him reacts with an open-mouthed, startled expression. Audience seating is visible behind them.

Casting

We have the same inclusive approach to casting actors as we do for welcoming audiences. We are committed to ensuring equal opportunities in our casting process regardless of disability, age, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity and socio-economic background. Keep an eye on our socials for any casting opportunities.

Website accessibility

We believe that everyone should be able to use our website, no matter their requirements or which technology is used to access it.

Colouring the Clouds’ website has been designed to meet the AA WCAG 2.0 recommended colour contrast ratios. This means the text is easier to read and the website is more user-friendly.
